Microsoft Admits that Xbox has Totally Failed to Battle with PS5 and Nintendo Switch

Microsoft launched the Xbox S and X series on November 10th, 2020. This means, the consoles came out exactly two days before Sony also launched the PS5. Considering the launch date for both consoles, no one should tell you that they intended to compete against each other. Microsoft went in for a very simplistic design to match the name of its console. The Xbox series took a boxy shape design with no unnecessary holes or cutouts around it. The PS5 on the other hand went in the direct opposite way. Sophisticated-looking design with cutouts all around it.

Surprisingly, it looks like Sony’s bet on the sophisticated design worked-out. As it stands now, the PS5 is one of the best-selling consoles you can get on the market now. However, you can’t say same for the Xbox which is supposed to be a direct competitor. This has caused a lot of worries at Microsoft forcing them to speak openly about it.

Microsoft Executive Admits that Xbox has Lost the Competition Against PS5 and Nintendo Xbox PS5 Nintendo

The CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer made the open statement on the Xbox Community YouTube channel. According to him, the Xbox cannot win the console war against the PS5 and the Nintendo Switch. He said that using conventional strategy cannot make the Xbox win. Phil Spencer made this statement during his appearance on Kinda Funny Games, an Xbox Community YouTube channel.

In his statement, Spencer made it clear that it will be unworldly to think that Sony or Nintendo players will switch overnight just because of a particular Xbox game.

“It’s just not true that if we go off and build great games, all of a sudden, you’re going to see console share shift in some dramatic way. We lost the worst generation to lose in the Xbox One,” he said.

There is a believe that Microsoft could turn things in their favor if they create more games. However, Spencer belittled this believe as well. He said that does not really relate to the reality of people.

“We’re not in the business of out-consoling Sony or out-consoling Nintendo. There isn’t really a great solution for us,” he said.

Xbox will Shift Focus on Other Services Rather than Competing Against PS5 and Nintendo Xbox PS5 Nintendo

Spencer rather believes that Xbox should focus on other areas that could fetch them more money. Rather than trying to compete against the likes of PS5 and Nintendo Switch in terms of sales. Xbox is rather focusing on services such as Game Pass, Xcloud and making sure that its games work seamlessly across all devices.

“I see a lot of pundits out there that want to go back to a time when we all had cartridges and discs, and every new generation was a clean slate, and you could switch the whole console share,” he stated.

In a nutshell, Spencer is trying to say that people will not start selling their PS5 consoles just because of a particular Xbox exclusive game. Hence, the company would rather channel its energy in making sure those who have the Xbox consoles will enjoy the best user experiences.
