The leakster correctly predicted some details of the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island ahead of its release. However, just like other leaks, we should take this with a grain of salt. It is not an official teaser thus we can not be certain that these changes will come.

The leaker also said that Apple is working on a “special iPadOS 17” for the rumoured larger iPad. Sources such as Ross Young have previously said that Apple is working on a 14.1-inch iPad that could launch sometime this year or early 2024, and a 16-inch model is even rumoured to be in the works. A “special edition” of iPadOS 17 will reportedly support two 6K resolution 60Hz refresh rate displays, but the source didn’t provide further details about the update.

In addition, as part of iPadOS 17, Apple is also preparing to bring “all features” of iPhone lock screen customization to iPad, such as preferences for the clock position on the iPad lock screen.

Special iPadOS 17

iPadOS 17 is a coming software update for iPads, which is expected to be official at WWDC on June 5, 2023 There are rumours that a special version of iPadOS 17 is in the works and it is for larger iPad models. The report claims that this system is for the 14.1-inch iPad with an M3 Pro chip that is set for release next year. There are also rumours of new features, such as Stage Manager and a redesigned Lock Screen. However, there is a lack of enough info about the new features. This could suggest that Apple intends to make it a performance-boosting iteration rather than rolling out too many new features.

There is not much info about the features of the special version of iPadOS 17 that is being developed for larger iPad models. There are also rumours that this version of iPadOS 17 will include support for multiple displays. This would expand the capabilities of Stage Manager. It will also let users multitask and work in separate apps and drag and drop files and windows between the two screens. However, it is unclear when (or if) this version of iPadOS 17 will be released

iPads that will not get iPadOS 17 update

According to reports, the 5th gen iPad and the two 1st Gen iPad Pro models will not get the new update. The report has been confirmed by iPhonesoft. It is not a huge surprise that these devices are not getting the update. The 5th Gen iPad hit the market in 2017 while the 1st Gen iPad Pro hit the shelve in 2015.

Although the new update isn’t novel, it might still make some buzz. Users could install software without going via the App Store if Apple is forced to permit sideloading. Apple is against that. However, in light of new EU laws, Apple might be forced to adopt this method, at least in Europe.

The new features of iPadOS 17 and how users will react to them are still to be defined. Some older iPad models won’t work with the new features, and some might not get them all. Apple is ending support for older iPad models in an effort to get users to switch to newer versions. Tech companies tend to use this tactic frequently.
